PORT ANGELES Veteran Master Gardener Lois Bellamy, will kick off the 2010 Clallam County Master Gardener Green Thumb Gardening Tips Series with a presentation about starting vegetables from seeds indoors at the Clallam County Courthouses Emergency Operations Center, 223 E. Fourth St., at noon Tuesday, Feb. 9.
The presentation is free and open to the public.
Starting seeds indoors gains an average four to six weeks on vegetable production.
Bellamy will share her experience on starting plants from seed indoors and transplanting outdoors to maximize the growing season.
She will discuss easy indoor planting tools, germination conditions and transplanting methods.
The Clallam County Master Gardeners Green Thumb brown bag series offers practical gardening tips on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month.
Other topics will include assessing winter damage, growing tomatoes on the North Olympic Peninsula, herb gardening, extended vegetable season, record keeping, weeds, beneficial insects and others.
All programs are free and open to the public.
People are encouraged to bring a sack lunch to the presentation if they need to eat lunch.
Clallam County Master Gardeners, a cooperative program between Washington State University and Clallam County, provides up-to-date information on sustainable gardening practices.
Master Gardener volunteers also address environmental and social priorities such as water conservation, the protection of water quality, reducing the impact of invasive species and healthy living through gardening.
