SEQUIM — Potential volunteers for the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge can reserve space now for a training session in April.
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officials will conduct annual new volunteer training for the refuge west of Sequim from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Prairie Grange Hall, 209 MacLeay Road.
Lunch will be provided from noon to 1 p.m.
The annual refresher course for volunteers will be from 1 p.m to 3 p.m.
Volunteers assist visitors and staff.
Primary duties include greeting visitors and providing information about the refuge’s trails and wildlife.
Additional duties can include wildlife surveys, invasive species mitigation, maintenance, trail roving, beach cleanup and administration.
The refuge is open from sunrise to sunset every day.
There is a daily entrance fee of $3 per family with children younger than 16 admitted free of charge.
The refuge is at the end of Voice of America Road accessed through the Dungeness Recreation Area.
From U.S. Highway 101, take Kitchen-Dick Road north and follow it as it becomes Lotzgesell Road.
