SEQUIM — Morgan King, 11, has been chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Washington Pageant to be held Sept. 2-4 at the Bellevue Hilton in Bellevue.
The pageant is for girls ages 10 to 12.
This is Morgan’s fourth year participating in the pageant.
Last year she received several trophies and cash awards.
Awards included Most Promising Model, Most Photogenic, second runner-up for casual modeling and first runner-up for the best thank-you card.
The winner of the pageant will receive a $1,000 cash award, the official crown and banner, a bouquet of roses and airfare to compete in the national pageant at Disneyland in California.
Several local sponsors have already assisted Morgan in reaching her goal of raising almost $600 toward the fees associated with the pageant.
They include: Tara Staton Photography, Sandy’s Kitchen, Belly Kicks, Davidson Plumbing, Dungeness Kids Co., Sunny Farms, The Old Post Office, Hurricane Coffee, Sassy Kat and family and friends.
This year, Morgan will be participating in the following categories: formal wear, personal introduction, interview, community involvement, talent, casual modeling and photogenic.
Makeup is strongly discouraged; contestants dress in floor-length gowns and age-appropriate attire.
“We value this particular pageant for its emphasis on natural beauty, inside and out,” said Morgan’s mother, Kimberly King.
“The confidence and poise that Morgan has gained from participating has been extremely valuable and will hopefully give Morgan a strong foundation towards her future as a leader within our community.”
