Young Girl Crawling Through Play Equipment

The third annual Dungeness Kids Fair promises to entertain children with free arts and crafts activities, clowns, face painters, balloon makers and more. Parents, grandparents and parents-to-be can learn more about local services and products for children.

Most children love to play games, be entertained by clowns, have their faces painted, make something to hang on the refrigerator, meet new friends and inspect colorful tractors. It is rare to have a chance to do all of this in one location, but the third annual Dungeness Kids Fair provides these opportunities and more for children of all ages.

The fair will be held at the Guy Cole Convention Center at Carrie Blake Park, 202 N. Blake Ave., from 10 a.m. to
2 p.m. Saturday, June 5.The event is free and open to the public.

“We are so excited about this year’s fair,” said organizer Susan Baritelle, who owns Dungeness Kids Co. “Last year we had more than 1,400 people attend the fair. We have expanded our vendors this year and have added even more activities for children. We hope the fair’s attendance numbers will grow again this year.”
Dungenss Kids Co. sponsors the event along with PeninsulaParent.com and Pure Mommy Organics.

“The event provides tons of fun for little ones and gives parents, grandparents and others a chance to learn about services and products offered by area businesses and organizations,” Bartille said. “We encourage parents or grandparents to pack a picnic and bring the kids to the park for a day of family fun.”

Children will have the opportunity to participate in Kindermusik classes taught by instructors from Aspire Academy of Expressive Arts. Kindermusik is a method of early childhood education involving music and movement. Classes will be offered on the center’s stage every 30 minutes starting at 10 a.m. No advanced sign-up is necessary.

“The inside of the convention center will be transformed into a child’s paradise complete with loads of arts-and-crafts projects, clowns making balloon animals and offering face painting and free keepsakes to take home,” Bartille said.

She said organizers have increased the number of the clowns, balloon animal makers and face painters because of the popularity of the activities last year. Other highlights of the event will include the Clallam County Literacy Council handing out free books and Aglazing Art Studio offering ceramics for children to paint.

Children will also have a chance to play with model trains and learn more about the history of railroads at the North Olympic Peninsula Railroaders booth.

Outside the center, children can view a variety of tractors and find out how Bekkevar Family Farms use tractors on the farm. Olympic Ambulance will have a vehicle on display and will explain how they help save lives.

“One of the great things about the fair is that it is for children and adults,” Bartitelle said. “Adults can learn more about preschool and daycare options, stores that sell everything from toys and books to clothing and shoes. The variety of vendors and informational booths this year is really diverse.”

The fair will even offer something to tempt attendees’ taste buds. Nash’s Organic Produce will be on hand selling homegrown vegetables, fruits and grains. Those with a sweet tooth can stop by a bake sale at Sequim Pre-Three’s booth.

“We tried to think of everything,” Baritelle said. “It is going to be a fun day for everyone.”

Baritelle encourages people to park at nearby Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., or along Blake Avenue to avoid traffic congestion and to create a safer atmosphere for fair attendees.
