GARDINER — Wild Birds Unlimited, 275953 U.S. Highway 101, will hold its fifth annual Earth Day celebration from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 25.
The event is free and open to the public.
The fun and informative day dedicated to our local organizations who work to preserve, promote and rehabilitate our local native wildlife and habitats.
A highlight of the day’s festivities will be the Northwest Raptor Center, a nonprofit organization that rehabilitates birds of prey and other wildlife.
Jaye & Gary Moore of the center will be there with rehabilitated birds of prey.
Attendees will have a chance to get an up-close look at amazing feathered friends and learn more about the Raptor Center.
Another special guest for the day will be local bluegrass master Cort Armstrong and friends.
The Northwest Bluegrass Band will be jamming out in the garden all afternoon.
Sequim’s Alder Wood Bistro will be in attendance again to fill everyone’s bellies with organic fare.
The Alder Wood Bistro is a forerunner in supporting the organic and locally grown movement in the local restaurant scene.
There will also be a special concert performance by the Five Acre School Marimba Band from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
“So bring the kids and some lawn chairs or a blanket, (maybe one you would like to donate a blanket to the Northwest Raptor Center — they need them!),” said Christie Lassen, owner of Wild Birds Unlimited in Gardiner.
“Have lunch out on the lawn, listen to some toe-tappin’ music and learn about the organizations in our neck of the woods who strive to make our world a better place for all creatures.”
Donations for the Northwest Raptor Center will also be collected during the event.
Spring is “baby season” for the center and they are in dire need of supplies.
They are looking for donations of towels, blankets, sheets, aquariums (in good condition), dog food, small animal-watering bottles, baby bottles to feed the baby deer, powdered goats milk, KMR, alfalfa, birdseed, chain-link fencing, 2-by-4’s and 4-by-4’s, and an enclosed trailer for the release of wildlife.
