BLYN — Third World Band, one of the longest running reggae bands performing today, will perform at Club Seven at 7 Cedars Casino, 270756 U.S. Highway 101, at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, to benefit the Sequim Education Foundation.
Tickets cost $25 per person, and only 230 tickets will be sold.
People interested in meeting the band can purchase a $35 ticket, which includes a meet and greet with band members and a concert ticket.
Only 20 combo tickets will be sold.
People must be 21 years of age or older to attend the concert.
“Third World will be in Seattle on their 35th Anniversary Celebration Tour,” said Danny Binswanger, the group’s business manager.
“We want to do a concert in Sequim to benefit public school children.”
Formed in 1973, the band has released 22 albums as well as solo projects from lead singer Bunny Rugs and guitarist Stephen “Cat” Coore.
Third World Band has received numerous awards including the New York City Ambassador Award in 2009, the United Nations Peace Medal in 1986 and the 1992 and 1996 Jamaica Music Industry Awards for Best Show Band in addition to 10 Grammy nominations.
Additionally, the group has worked and collaborated with top acts such as the Jackson Five, Bob Marley and the Wailers and Stevie Wonder.
“We are very pleased to be the benefactors of Third World Band’s generosity,” said Sequim Education Foundation President Dick Hughes.
“Proceeds received from the group’s Aug. 4 performance will help support our annual Engineering Challenge and Student Film Festival as well as our grant programs for students and teachers.”
