Through January, Clallam County residents had donated 86 used cell phones to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office’s 911 cell phone program.
The donations have enabled the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office to receive 16 recycled cell phones for distribution in Clallam County.
These phones are a vital link between citizens in need of assistance and emergency responders.
Since the inception of the program, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office has distributed four emergency cell phones from the 911 Cell Phone Bank to seniors living in Sequim.
The cell phones are provided free to senior citizens, individuals who live alone or victims of violent crimes and others who may have no way of contacting 9-1-1 for an emergency.
Used cell phones may be turned in at the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office or one of the designated drop-off locations listed below.
Bring any cases, chargers or extra batteries as well.
These phones will be shipped to the 911 Cell Phone Bank, an organization for reconditioning.
In return, the sheriff’s office will be sent a supply of new cell phones to keep on hand, to be given out when needed or requested.
All contributions are tax-deductible.
A box to drop off used cell phones and accessories is located at the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, 223 E. Fourth St., Suite 12, Port Angeles.
Additional drop-off locations in Clallam County are at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., SunLand Homeowners’ Association, 135 Fairway Drive; Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.; and the Clallam Bay Library, 16990 state Highway 112.
